Since I left the publishing industry back in November, I started working in the buying office at bloomingdales.com and I actually enjoy it!

The work load is intense, so I can't even believe how my AB gets through it (she's amazing!). There's no time for gchat, gmail, phone convos, or internet browsing. It's strictly business--hence the lack of posts! I apologize to all my besties...I literally collapse when I get home. I'll have to make it up to you guys soon!

Oh my freakin goodness. It’s been WAY long since I last updated. I’ve been super busy and blah blah blah. The Oscars. There’s so much to say in so little time. The most surprising of the night was Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham. This British designer is rocking my world. I love you. Miley looked pretty amazing in that dress, jewels, make-up, etc…To be honest I was thinking “why would they choose her as a presenter?” but then the ah-hah moment came when her co-presenter was Amanda Seyfried. Both in those love movies by Nicholas Sparks. I get it.

I’m so used to seeing this little tween in bell bottoms and that crazy blonde wig on Hannah Montana... but last night was a total transformation. She could work on that pose though…just sayin.Who’s her stylist? Anybody know??

Last year I rented a movie entitled Mongol about a young Genghis Khan and his rise to tyranny. So when I heard that Catherine Malandrino's inspiration for the Fall 2010 collection was mongol, well...I had a field day! This collection is one of my favorite's from fall. If any young mongol girl was to be thrown into a pit of fashion makeover while maintaining her heritage...this collection is what the end result would be. Fur lined jackets, ethnic print, tie wrap waists, tapered trousers, bold accessories and a bit of rough edginess takes hold of Malandrino's looks. I must say, I want it all.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2010

We know that Hervé Léger is known for the bandage dress...but this season, they've added new elements to the label...and I'm excited! I like the fact that there are several dresses showcasing asymmetrical looks. The slight neon details and exposed torso add a kick of life to the label, which in my opinion is something it definitely needed. I guess with all of the crazy weaving and multi colored pieces, heavier girlies who wanna wear something tight will be able to create an optical allusion that make them look a bit more slim. The truth is, fashion should be available to every shape and size. With finer strips of layering and patterns creating an elongated shape, the attention is taken away from fat that used to be visable on Hervé Léger 1.0 designs.

You know how fabulous Miss Vicky B is!! How flawless did she look as a guest judge on American Idol? She was so kind to the plebeians who were overjoyed by auditioning in front of her. Lucky for them, it's probably the once in a lifetime chance to be that close the goddess!

So let's see the checklist for Victoria Beckham...

-Take over the world as a girl band pop sensation
-Marry a hunky soccer player
-Become so fab that you land the cover of Glamour (in jeans!)
-Market yourself as a legit fashion designer

This season's collection is a step up from previous. The clothes are more versatile as well as evolved. She uses new fabrics and color palettes. The one shouldered trend is going to be in for this upcoming year. The silhouette of the collection is traditional Victoria Beckham style and I love how it's paired with sunglasses. Although the collection is Fall 2010, it does look a bit like a spring or resort collection to me. What I really need is that Breakfast at Tiffany's little black dress to complete my wardrobe.

Damn this collection is fierce. I think Jen Kao just gave us a sneak peak for the wardrobe of Star Trek II! We've got outfits for every character...the sexy temptress, the wicked witch, and the heroic chics. I definitely love the Lady Gaga inspired one piece...perhaps she'll be wearing that for her next public appearance?? This is a collection that definitely belongs in fashion week. Kudos.

Richard Chai Love Spring 2010

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and let's be honest...ain't nothing exciting really going on there! Trust me, I'm sure that my entire high school and college helped Abercrombie & Fitch stay afloat (whilst it was going downhill everywhere else)! There was always a few people who broke the mold and wore something daring that others didn't understand. They would get those awkward glances from people...as if they were some kind of freak. Well this is the tribute collection to that unnamed girl of my graduating class. Good for you.

This collection makes me think of the cool punky girl in high school. Kind of the loner and free spirit. She doesn't give a shit about what other people think...as long as she feels good in her own skin. And let's be honest, fashion is an extension of who you are. So yes...the pale face with bright red lipstick, straight unkempt hair, and "i don't care" attitude all reflect the cool factor of this collection.

My favorite look is the gray piece--fur top with harem looking pants with boots pulling the look together. So amazing.

Rachel Comey Spring 2010

Rachel Comey's collection didn't look any different than her previous collections--it's very safe and cute. Her signature patterns matched with oversized tops and peaking collars are classic...even reminiscent of the 50's, but nothing stellar. I do love the look with the blue top and pencil skirt. The skirt gives the allusion of a slimmer waist...do you see that? Anyways, overall I would give this a B+ because Rachel Comey could definitely pull something much more innovative.

Oh my word. Last night I saw Lisa Mayock (half genius of Vena Cava) smooching with her man. She's the most adorable person ever...uber petite and bangs to kill for. According to sources, Vena Cava's Fall 2010 collection was inspired by a trip to woodstock they took last year. I don't really see a lot of woodstock inspiration in the collection, more of a downtown grunge/bohemian feel. I loved the proportions they played with and the wild prints.

Just got back from GQ's event at the IAC and had so much fun. Aside from the champagne, I was able to take a look at America's top menswear designers Fall 2010 Collections. The competitors were: Caulfield Prepatory, Burkman Bros, UNIS, Billy Reid, J. Crew (Frank Muytjens) and Richard Chai. Obviously, since it's the creme of the crop, every collection was amazing, BUT... my favorite of the night was Richard Chai. I loved the muted colors with cardigans and tasteful use of layering. All in all, had so much fun running into a lot of friends and the people were just so beautiful--who wouldn't have fun.

Alexander McQueen was found dead this morning in his flat in London. The 40 year old designer's death is being called "suspicious" according to police officials. He is the one who made Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video so amazing! Oh my gosh...times are definitely tough...

I'm sitting in my living room and the first show I flipped to was Bravo. I haven't seen an episode of Kell on Earth until now and I'm addicted. Unlike The Rachel Zoe Project, Kelly Cutrone shows the grunt work, bitching, and high stress levels going on behind the "glamorousness" of the fashion industry. Some amazing high points of this episode:

1. Andrew got hired as Kelly's assistant over her own interns because he had great style. She was sick of blonde 20 somethings running her schedule. The fashion world is so unfair. Sometimes paying your dues aren't enough.

2. Kelly + her employee live in the same building they work at.

3. "I left LA and came to NYC as a pretty successful hair stylist to do what I really love...all so that I can be called a retard..." -Skinner's Assistant

4. "I don't want to dress up (for Chado Ralph Rucci's show) if I'm sitting in the third row." -Ava, Kelly's daughter

Valentine's Day will be here soon enough and it's always better to have a thoughtful gift in mind. If you're anything like me, I like to suggest a few key pieces to my boyfriend for his wardrobe (which he denies my involvement). But come February 14th, the dear old boyfriend will be unwrapping a gift from Thomas Pink from yours truly. Sometimes I find it best to just give rather than hint to him something worth investing in. For those of you with a larger budget, head to their store or online site to find handsome suits in various styles.

And for those of you who will be calling yourself Ms. Lonely Heart on Vday...just stop right there. Plan a nice dinner date with your brother, cousin, dad, friend...anybody! And don't forget that they might like a nice tie too!

Yea, I know I'm very behind on this one. The weeks have been hectic since I'm traveling so much. I thoroughly enjoyed the Golden Globes and thought many of the awards were well deserved. First, Monique wowed me with her heartbreaking acceptance speech. She did such an amazing job as best supporting actress in Precious (if you haven't seen it yet, you better!). Secondly, Michael C. Hall made me so proud! I literally sat in front of my computer watching season 1-4 of Dexter in a span of 2 weeks. He's an incredible actor and it was great to see that he attended the Golden Globes even in his condition. I really can't wait for season 5 to begin!

There were so many amazing looks that night and I kid you not, I bet every fashion PR maven was glued to the tv to see if their dress was worn. Here were my favorite looks from the evening:

Distorting the Truth

According to the L.A. Times, the average American woman wears a size 14. Shocking isn't it? Not to say that all of these women are in healthy condition, but seriously, this raises some eyebrows as to why so many of us would think that the average woman would be a size a two or four. I'll tell you why, it's because fashion houses and advertisers book models that, unlike most of the women in your life, are blessed with a tall and lean figure. Companies such as W magazine, Olay, and Ralph Lauren have recently been in heat for using Photoshop to create unrealistic results and images in their campaigns and covers in portraying flawlessness. In an age of media revolution, advertisements and news are at the fingertips of young men and women who are fed conflicting images of beauty and body issues. On one side we have a beauty brand like Dove creating positive messages towards young women to be happy about how they look and that beauty comes from within. The next day an advertisement by Ralph Lauren will hit these young eyes showing an extremely photoshopped image of a model, later to hear that the model (Filippa Hamilton) was fired for being too overweight.

Faced with these double standards, many impressionable teens and young adults will never be at peace with what image is the correct one. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though, we are beginning to see the rise of publications like Glamour and V magazine featuring "normal" to plus size women such as Crystal Renn in their spreads and advertising committees are starting to criticize and even ban overtly false images. In a perfect world, we wouldn't have women or men doubting how beautiful they are or comparing themselves to other, but the fact are we don't live in a perfect world. What we can do to help self image is to blast healthy and varying body shapes to audiences across all mediums.

High Thighs Here to Stay

Take a look at any fashion or celebrity magazine and the lady is everywhere. I'm speaking of Lady Gaga of course. With Lady Gaga setting the trend of going pantless, the leotard has never been so sexy. Before she set the standard, most people thought women going out in opaque leggings and small tops were scandalous! Lady Gaga has received the "OK" seal of approval from most fashion critiques who have hailed her as being innovative and fashion forward--she even has her own team of creative designers/stylists called the "Haus of Gaga." It's no surprise then that this trend has hit another fashion capital-- London. Women are hitting the clubs in lingerie so much that, in just a few days, the corsets and lingerie section at Selfridges was completely ravaged and sold out! While I haven't spotted any women in NYC dancing in these leotards, I have seen a clip from Jersey Shore in which J-Woww is dancing in this get-up with nothing but fishnet stockings (I guess she'd be a prime example of how not to style this new fad because trashy is never in). We'll have to wait and see how far this trend will take us and which designers will take this fashion into mainstream America. We've already seen Marc Jacobs' spring 2010 RTW show, and he was definitely able to design some amazing summer "shorts" that barely graze the thighs. I foresee this trend sticking around for awhile, but let's just hope that not everybody will think that this new one- piece will be appropriate for them. When skinny jeans first hit the masses, we heard a lot of backlash on how it wasn't flattering on everybody. We've been able to disprove that theory since skinny jeans are now a staple in everybody's closet and if you don't own a pair…you need to hit Uniqlo or Levis ASAP! But seriously, let's try to keep the Gaga fashion to those under 30 (sorry, I am an ageist), and preferably only at night. Not everybody can pull it off as stylishly and effortlessly as Miss Lady Gaga.

Beyonce Heat, price ranges from $39-59 and is due out around February. The colors represent Beyonce's favorite colors--red & gold. Since most of her tours have had the element of fire, she decided to make the bottle look like it was on fire. Simple enough. I think we're going to be smelling a lot of this perfume on the ladies around Valentine's Day. I mean if you can't look like Beyonce, at least your boyfriend will want you smelling like her, right?

Luck, really. I was an aspiring doctor (weren't we all?) but started to get really into fashion and style. E-mailed a random internship address with my resume and cover letter to NYLON back in 2007 and a few months later I was organizing their fashion closet and assisting photo shoots. Over time, I switched over to editorial.

What does a normal day look like for you at the office?

Fact-checking upcoming articles, researching for upcoming stories and pitches (I'm a Google connoisseur), hounding down potential interview subjects for their contact information, and walking the office dogs. Whenever there's down time I'm constantly looking at blogs and websites for new ideas.

Favorite designer? Alexander Wang, duh.

What trend are you ogling over?

I still go nuts over studs. Brogues are my favorite. Androgyny.

Shoes or bags? Watches.

What was the first mistake you made in fashion?

Apparently navy and black aren't supposed to go together but I'm a fan of the combo.

What’s your one piece of advice for somebody looking to break into the fashion world?

Do your research. Stay informed. Just because you know who Kelly Cutrone is because of the City doesn't mean you know it all. If you want to write, know your favorite writers. If you want to take photos, know the best photographers. If you want to be a fashion editor, study every stylist's work and know who runs what where, whether it's a magazine, fashion house, or PR firm.

If you could trade places with anybody at the moment, who would it be and why?

Kate Lanphear for her wardrobe (and job obviously). That would be ace.

What does a normal day look like for you at the office?

Well if it’s a really busy day (most days), I never see the office. I’m doing crazy pick-ups! Because of this, I’ve been to many designers’ showrooms and it’s always great to see. Chanel, D&G, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and DVF, to name a few… Otherwise, I’m assisting the FA with maintaining and organizing every aspect of the fashion closet.

Favorite designer?

Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs, they can do no wrong in my eyes!

What trend(s) are you ogling over?

Two things that use to be tremendous faux pas; socks with open-toed shoes and overalls.

Shoes or bags? Definitely shoes! I’d kill for Sonia Rykiel’s diamond Creepers

What was the first mistake you made in fashion?

Scaring the bejesus out of a really important person that I work for, on the street, in NYC!

…How did you solve it?

By apologizing the next day and sharing a nice laugh.

What’s your one piece of advice for somebody looking to break into the fashion world?

INTERN! It’s the best way to work for some of the greatest companies and if you’re serious about working in the industry you have to pay your dues. That means starting at the bottom and working hard to get to the top. You should treasure that position, and remember that you’re definitely not too good to do the grunt work; we all have to do it at some point! Also, never burn bridges, especially in this industry. It’s a small world and you’re definitely going to run into that person again… Oh, wait I was only suppose to give one piece of advice, my bad.

If you could trade places with anybody at the moment, who would it be and why?

Terry Richardson. He’s hung out with Mr. President, he shoots some of the BEST people for the BEST editorials for some of the BEST magazines, oh and not to mention he’s tremendously talented.

New Victoria's Secret in SoHo

Just in time for the holiday season, Victoria's Secret has opened a new flagship store at 591-593 Broadway in SoHo. Five times the size of it’s previous store on Broadway, the new 24,000 square foot VS store offers a more fun and flirty visual display. With much more stock, customers will be able to visit the bra salon and panty boutique. Also, it won’t hurt that the fitting rooms are more plentiful and customer service will be top notch.

This morning I woke up feeling really under the weather with a chill and headache. As I was getting off the bus near Grand Central I saw something moving very fast out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head and saw the funniest costume ever. Some guy, in the festive spirit of Halloween, was rollerblading down 42nd street in a full on outfit from Blades of Glory as Chazz Michael Michaels. I was dying as men in black & gray suits stared quizzically at this lunatic. At that moment I felt mentally better and was ready to walk into the office in good humor.

I’ve kind of been on the hunt for inspiring photos, works of art, etc. to help pump those creativity juices in my brain. I feel like I don’t have any chemistry with my sewing machine, camera, or canvas anymore...therefore I need to be inspired by something! Then I came across my friend Colin Leaman’s site. Browsing through I fell in love with this photo montage. Very fitting for the kind of style and mood I’ve been in these days (exactly, words can’t describe—only a photo can). Colin’s passion for photography is definitely channeled through his lens and I need something like that! So next week I’m going to take another stab at the paper with my paint brushes and watercolor. So Danke, Colin, for inspiring me.

I bought a red coat a few years ago in London and I can’t part with it. As my taste in fashion has changed, the small details of my coat bother me. For example the buttons on my coat are large red circles. Yuck. So I searched the web and found a site called As Cute As A Button. If you’re asking who Tavi is...you need to head to “The New Girl in Town” right after you finish reading this post. POP is a British magazine that’s SOO cool that I’m officially obsessed. Inside you’ll find amazing layouts, fashion editorial, news about artists/politicians/scientists...etc. The mag

azine doesn’t focus solely on fashion. It offers so much more about culture in various parts of the globe.

I guess that’s why they say Americans are the most ignorant bunch. People in other parts of the world actually pay attention to what’s going on GLOBALLY! "HIGH-LEVEL CUTS: The layoffs at Condé Nast are winding down, although several high-level editors continue to exit. At Details, executive editor Greg Williams and fashion director Michael Macko were let go from the magazine Tuesday. Williams had been with Details for two years, while Macko left behind a decade-long tenure at Saks Fifth Avenue to join Details in spring of 2008. At Lucky, special projects director Allyson Waterman was let go, as the magazine has cut back on its events and uses other staffers for its television appearances. Details cut ad sales positions last week, while Teen Vogue eliminated several staff positions on the sales side on Tuesday. But there were no cuts to the editorial staff since that department will meet its budget targets by eliminating previously unfilled positions and trimming other expenses. Teen Vogue is also working on additional projects, said to include another television show and a special prom insert that will come packaged with the March edition. — Stephanie D. From a young age, my mother told me to not wear make up & stay out of the sun. Growing up, I did just the opposite. My junior year of high school I found the miracle of foundation and eye shadow to cover up small blemishes and look more attractive. And then in college ALL the girls went tanning on the campus lawn or at salons—I of course, jumped on the bandwagon. A few years down the road, I really wish I had listened to my mother. I feel like the first wave of layoffs during this horrible recession hit a few fashion/publishing people, but mostly those in finance/banks/etc. But the tide has shifted and it is pounding jobs with no remorse. Today we find out that Versace is going to cut around 350 jobs worldwide by the middle of 2010. Gee, it must suck to be out of a job and watch Donatella hamming it up with Lohan. These days we just don’t see any solidarity among employees and employers.

Have you watched America’s Next Top Model Cycle 13? I know the show has been around forever and the hype about the show is slowly dying, but I’m still addicted. Why? Because Jen An is on the show! Who is Jen? She’s that super cute asian girl that MUST make it to the top 3. Okay, fine...I’m a bit biased because Jen and I went to middle/high school together in little ole Philadelphia. I think we had study hall together or something & hung out a few times, but after high school too many people drift apart. And I admit I never kept in touch...and didn’t even know she was ON the show until a few weeks ago. But annnyways, Jen is kicking ass and looks so gorgeous in her photos! I love that this season the models are 5’7” and under. It’s not just about being able to take pictures since these models need to work the camera lens and video lens! They have to be marketable...in other words...reaching the mass market with their adorable face + personality.

Well Jennifer, you are/were and always will be beautiful + best of luck! Just know that my whole apartment is rooting for you!

New York, I Love You

This past weekend I went to go watch New York, I Love You. I guess I was a bit fooled by the trailers because I thought it was going to be a romantic comedy. Little did I know it was an adaptation from Paris, je t’aime (which by the way is a really adorable movie). It just so happens that the film didn’t entirely translate from the original. With a star studded cast I definitely expected something a little more. My favorite segments were with Shia LaBeouf, the old couple, & Natalie Portman. The most disheartening were the scenes of Rachel Bilson + Hayden Christensen. They are SUCH a hot couple, but there was an awkwardness...maybe it was just the bad acting? Who knows. But this I do know—Rachel looked super cute in her toned down yet super sophisticated outfits.

"TIME FOR CUTS?: Time Inc. is gearing up for what has been a recurring autumn event at the publishing company — a round of layoffs across multiple magazines and divisions. But when are the cuts coming? According to several sources, the company is expected to make staff reductions across the board next week. The move follows several rounds of layoffs the publisher has unveiled in each of the last three years. Last October, Time Inc. laid off 600 people across its divisions amid a restructuring of its executive team and reorganization of its magazines. Time Inc. did not comment on impending layoffs on Monday. Reports on Friday speculated the coming cuts might be as large as last year’s, but several sources inside and outside the company believed that figure to be too high. Closures also aren’t expected to happen this time around, but sources speculate rate base or publishing schedule changes could be on the table. One title that has already unveiled changes is Fortune, which will trim the number of issues from its schedule by a quarter, to 18 from 25. And while Time Inc. preps for cuts, Forbes on Monday began its third round of layoffs this year, which will continue through the end of the year. In January, Forbes dismissed 19 editorial employees and, in March, cut 50 positions across the company. While the number of staffers affected on Monday wasn’t disclosed, the cuts will be across the entire company. “We — and the entire media world — have been hit hard by both the severe recession and the seismic shifts wrought by the Web,” wrote Steve Forbes in a memo to staffers. “Given these dramatic events, further layoffs, unfortunately, are necessary across the entire organization.” — Stephanie D. How were you able to break into the fashion industry?
I started interning at Elle and Seventeen in their fashion departments during my summers in New York City. During school, I would also intern at the Improper Bostonian, working closely with the fashion editor there. A month shy before graduation, I sent my resume and cover letter to every magazine I was interested in working for and I heard back fromLucky first.

What does a normal day look like for you at the office?
Organizing all the clothing racks for upcoming features, handling the traffic of samples that come in and out of the fashion closet, helping prepare for photo shoots and requesting clothes for future stories. I wouldn’t be able to do all of this without the help from my team of hard working interns.

Favorite designer? Chanel- Karl Lagerfeld is a genius. I also love Givenchy and Proenza Schouler

What trend are you ogling over?
Sky-high heels. I don’t care if they’re platform or wedges. The higher, the better.

Shoes or bags? Bags

What was the first mistake you made in fashion?
I sent a sample back to the wrong showroom.

…How did you solve it?
I called them back. They returned it to us and I sent it back to the appropriate place. I double check before I send anything back now.

What’s your one piece of advice for somebody looking to break into the fashion world?
Be persistent and be passionate. No matter how young or inexperienced you may be, there is always a way to break in. You can pitch fashion stories at your school newspaper or freelance for a stylist. People always need extra help, so be willing even if you don’t get paid.

If you could trade places with anybody at the moment, who would it be and why?

Carine Roitfeld. She always comes out with an issue every month that is visually stunning and provocative at the same time. Plus, she’s so fierce!

When I first meet someone, one of the first things they ask me is "what sign are you?" I never realized how often people ask this...and how much they take into account what sign you are to read your personality. Pretty interesting. So at work I stumbled upon a book about astrological signs and it actually seemed to fit my quirks and characteristics. AND THEN...I found this shirt on wildfox's website and I'm obsessed.
